2008 comes to an end...

Well, it's an been an interesting year - at least for me in a photography sort of way.

I've increased the amount of photography equipment that I own - I hope that I have also increased my knowledge as well.

I'm not really one to make new years resolutions - I do hope that I'm able to increase the business side for 2009.

Wishing you and yours a happy new year...

Be safe.

The last rose before winter -

So, I was out in the backyard with the dog and I looked over and saw this rose. I thought to myself - "man, it's getting pretty late in the season for these to be blooming". I took this shot and then started playing around with it in Photoshop - I really kicked up the saturation - but I like it. It also made flickr Explorer... not bad.

backlit orchid

Working with some off camera flash techniques - and I used my 430ex off camera fired with my ir trigger. In this shot the 430 is off camera left and below the "subject"...

This is fun stuff.

Photo Shoot - lesson's learned

I had a photo shoot with Meredith on Saturday in Wake Forest and I learned a very important lesson.

I've read about this before - and never really thought about it - until it happened yesterday.

We'd been shooting for almost 2 hours and we could all tell Meredith was tired - so we all started packing up and as we are getting everything together - Meredith walks over to a dandelion and picks it up and blows on it - with no direction from anyone... I couldn't get my camera out of the bag fast enough.

The lesson learned - never put your camera away.

Here's the resulting photo - while technically – this is not the best picture – it’s too soft and I don’t like the background – the mom and dad love this shot.

go figure.

Photo Shoot in Las Vegas

So, I was hired to be the "event" photographer for the Townie's dental convention in Las Vegas the week of April 14th.

The convention was held at the Rio (we've been there before) - and by all accounts - it was another great success.

My job was to take pictures of the speakers as well as random shots as things were happening... it was a good time and I will have photos up shortly.

This is the dentist from the ABC show "Extreme Make Over" with Dr. Sam and Dr. T-bone.

It was a great time....

Bain Water Works - Raleigh

So, yesterday the Raleigh Social Group from flickr went to the old Bain Water Workers plant in downtown Raleigh. At the last count there were maybe 40+ photographers and 6 models and we had the entire facility to ourselves. What a blast. It was good to meet some of new members and it's always good to see the rest of the group.

Here's a shot that I took - Joei Reed -

Latest Strobist

So, I've been trying to get better using my strobe lights and I belong to a couple of flickr strobe groups. One is a local one that I started with a few other people. The idea behind it was - give ourself assignments each week using our off camera flash.

It's been a challenge at times - but it's been a real learning experience.

Here's the shot for this week - they assignment was to use your off camera flash in your bathroom - in this shot I just used my IR transmitter and placed my 430ex in the bottom of the tub.

I kind a like the way it turned out.
