The Raleigh Shimmer Wall

So, I ended up in downtown Raleigh last night and one of the things that I always wanted to do was to "shoot" the Raleigh Shimmer Wall. This wall is located on the back-side of the new Raleigh Convention Center - this is a 20 second exposure and I had to wait several minutes to get this shot without any cars in the shot.

I did have to pay $1.00 to park - but I think it was worth it...

New Canon 7D

So - I just upgraded from my trusty Canon 40D to the new Canon 7D - and what a difference - not only was there a big jump in mega-pixels (from 10 to 18) - they moved the controls around as well.

Needless to say - I've been in a big learning curve as well as reading the manual as much as possible.

I've only published one image on Flickr with this new camera - but stay tuned - there are more on the way.

Triangle Strobist Meetup for May

For our May meetup we headed out to Greensboro and shot in Bokeh Joe's dry cleaners. We had a great time and Joe was the greatest host - pizza and lens for everyone - not really - just the pizza.

Anyway, I had a chance to use his 85 mm 1.2 L lens - WOW what a lens - with a 1.2 you could shoot in a closet.

Here are some of my shots from that shoot.

Cruise - 2009

So, as strange as this may sound - we won a trip - actually a cruise.

That's right - Mr. "if it weren't for bad luck - I'd have no luck at all.." - we won a cruise to the Cayman Islands and the Florida Keys.

We were on the Regency Cruise line - which means we all had big state rooms - with bathrooms and balcony's - it was fabulous - here's a shot I took off the back of the ship as we were pulling away from the Keys.

Triangle Strobist Meetup

So, this past week we had our monthly strobists meetup here at my house. I think we had about 30+ people here at the house and we had 2 stations setup. Man it was a great deal of fun and I learned a bunch.

Here is one of the shots that I took - the model's name is Candi - and she was a real trooper - here she was in a garage filled with 25+ photographers - what a deal....

It snowed -

Well, we got some snow this week - and for this part of the country - we don't get snow that often. We ended up with about 5-6 inches where I live, which is enough to get out of work for a day.... that's about it. As of today, the snow is still melting and I would expect that by this weekend it will be all gone.

This picture was taken from the upstairs bedroom looking out across my backyard.

Maybe spring is right around the corner....

Kicking around Youngsville.

So, myself, Steve and Rich ended up kicking around in Youngsville, NC this afternoon. We ended up finding 3 very interesting places. The first was an old home that looked like someone had started to restore it and the somewhere along the way either ran out of money or energy. The house looked like it had several additions and none were very recent. A majority of the siding had already been removed and it looked like an skeleton standing out in the field all by itself.

This picture was taken in the attic - this is pretty much how it came out of the camera - I did kick up the saturation level a tad - but that was about it.

After we spent a good couple of hours looking at the house - we found - what might have been the family cemetery behind the house. It looked like one of the tombstones had been knocked over. We were still able to read who was buried in this area.

All in all - it was a pretty good day - I'll be going back.
